Mumbai: The Dental Photography School (DPS) under the mentorship of Dr.Mayur Davda has come out with what could be called India's first dental calender. The calender features winners of a photo contest conducted by DPS recently.
Photographic documentation in the field of dentistry is very essential. It gives the clinician an opportunity to educate the patient on the existing shortcomings, helps plan treatment, present options to the patients, and communicate with the lab technician as well.
Correct documentation using the right tools is imperative. In recent years, there has been a surge in the number of dentists adopting better photgraphy in their day to day practice. Whether it is to edcuate, communicate or showcase, dentists have been getting better at it . So, when the Dental Photography School announced a woldwide contest, the shutter bugs clicked away. Dr.Mayur Davda, Canon Photomentor and DPS founder, was pleasantly surprised to see that the quality of pictures exceeded his expectations.
The Dental calender features 12 winners, one for each month of the year. Interestingly among the winners are seven dentists from India and five other noted photography afficanados from around the world.
"The idea behind dental photography calendar was to motivate dentists to make excellent images which could be featured in the calendar and circulated across the globe to the who’s who of dentistry. " said Dr.Mayur Davda who is gearing up to mentor an exclusive and extensive photography training programme in assocation with Manipal college of dental sciences Manipal.
The contest for the calender was announced on 31st December 2016and was open until 10 January 2017. It was open for all dental students, dental professionals including dental hygienists, dental ceramists and dentists.
According to DPS, the one and only rule for selection was that the dental images should have been made using a DSLR.The winners were selected on the basis of the aesthetic value of the image, the settings used, the procedure being carried out and the difficulty level.
"Extremely honoured to be among the select few to have their pictures featured in India's first ever Dental Photography Calendar. Waiting eagerly to get my copy. Seriously, work can b so much fun when it integrates seamlessly with ones passion." said Dr.Amit Gulati from Mumbai.
Among the other winners is a Ceramist from Romania who says "I was so happy to hear that dental photography is desired in India and that people are so hungry to see and learn. Everyone who try and has the curiosity to try dental photography is a winner. There should be more contests so that people will be motivated and start doing this. In that way everyone will improve not only their photography skills but also their way of working, quality and so on."
The DPS Dental calender may just be the beginning of what could be a new trend in the world of dentistry.
So, Say cheese!
