It is a matter of great pride and honor for the dental fraternity that one of the very senior and most highly accomplished dental surgeon has been awarded the PVSM. PVSM i.e. the PARAM VISHISHTA SEVA MEDAL is a military award given for the ‘distinguished services of the most exceptional order’ to military personnel and is the highest peacetime distinguished service award.
This most prestigious and coveted Presidential Award has been announced on by the Indian Army, Ministry of Defence and awarded to Lieutenant General Vimal Arora. He becomes the most highly decorated serving military dental surgeon doing immense proud and bringing laurels to the Dental profession. The award was conferred upon by the President of India in a formal ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Lieutenant General Vimal Arora AVSM, VSM & Bar is the past Director General of Dental Services and the technical Head of the Army, Navy & the Air Forces Dental Branches of the Dental Corps. He is the past Colonel Commandant of the Army Dental Corps. He is also the Honorary Dental Surgeon to the President of India.
He has been the proud recipient of the Presidents’ Award for the 4th time in his professional service career with the Armed Forces. He was awarded ‘Vishisht Seva Medal’ in 1996, Bar to ‘Vishisht Seva Medal’ in 2006 and the prestigious ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ on the 26th Jan 2014. Among other awards, he has also been conferred upon the ‘Order of the Special Royal Emblem’ by the Sultan of Oman and Commendations by the Chiefs of the Army & Airforce. He has also been recently selected to receive the National Oral Health Care Award, the ‘Sushruta Award’ given away by the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on 3rd Jan 2015 in Mumbai.
It is a befitting recognition of his professional excellence, service to the nation and dedication and devotion to his duties as the Head of the Dental Services.
