MUMBAI, India: Can clinicians identify patients at higher risk of implant complications before surgery? Can understanding the patient’s immune response improve implant survival and regenerative outcomes?

These questions are expected to take centre stage when Dr Joseph Choukroun, the internationally recognised pioneer of Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF), returns to India for the PRF OCEAN & Osteoimmunology Masterclass India Tour 2026.

The two-city educational programme will be held in Kochi (24 July) and Mumbai (26 July), bringing together implantologists, periodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, prosthodontists and general dentists to explore emerging evidence in regenerative dentistry, osteoimmunology and biologically driven implant therapy.

Unlike traditional implant education that primarily focuses on surgical technique and biomaterials, the masterclass will emphasise the growing role of patient biology in determining clinical outcomes. The programme will explore how immune regulation, inflammation and host response may influence bone regeneration, implant integration and long-term treatment success.

One of the major themes will be Osteoimmunology, an emerging discipline that examines the complex interactions between the immune system and bone metabolism. Increasing research suggests that immune-mediated mechanisms play an important role in bone healing and may influence the predictability of regenerative procedures and implant therapy.

The scientific programme will also introduce the latest developments in PRF OCEAN 2026, including advances in platelet-rich fibrin protocols, S-PRF and injectable PRF (i-PRF), along with applications in sticky bone, immediate implant placement, regenerative surgery and peri-implant tissue management.

Another area expected to generate considerable interest is the growing emphasis on preoperative implant risk assessment. Participants will be introduced to concepts related to chairside assessment of inflammatory biomarkers and their potential role in evaluating biological readiness for implant and regenerative procedures. While these technologies continue to evolve, they reflect a broader shift towards personalised, biology-driven treatment planning.

The programme will also examine one of implant dentistry’s most challenging biological complications—peri-implantitis—with discussions focusing on risk assessment, prevention strategies and contemporary management protocols.

Speaking ahead of the India tour, Dr Joseph Choukroun said that regenerative dentistry is entering a new era in which biology may become as important as surgical precision.

“We can no longer view bone regeneration as a purely mechanical or surgical process. Bone healing is fundamentally controlled by biological and immunological mechanisms. The future belongs to clinicians who understand not only how to place implants, but how to optimise the patient’s regenerative capacity before treatment. I look forward to discussing the latest PRF OCEAN concepts and Osteoimmunology protocols with my colleagues in India.”

According to Dr Srinivas Katta, Managing Director of Crest Biologics, regenerative dentistry is increasingly moving towards biologically driven treatment protocols designed to enhance healing and improve long-term clinical outcomes.

“Purgo’s advanced bone grafting technologies have been developed to support predictable bone regeneration, and we are pleased to support this important educational initiative. The integration of modern bone grafting materials, PRF technologies and osteoimmunology concepts represents a significant step forward in implant dentistry and regenerative treatment planning.”

Ruumi Daruwalla, Managing Director of LifeCare Devices Pvt. Ltd., reflected on the evolution of PRF education in India since Prof. Choukroun first introduced the concept to Indian clinicians in 2009.

“Since then, thousands of dentists, oral surgeons, implantologists and facial aesthetic practitioners across India have incorporated Choukroun PRF protocols into their clinical practice. The protocols have continued to evolve, with each advancement aimed at improving growth factor concentration, regenerative potential and clinical predictability. The PRF OCEAN 2026 Masterclass will introduce the latest developments in this continuing evolution of regenerative dentistry.”

Ruumi Daruwalla also highlighted the growing importance of assessing patient biology before surgical intervention.

“For many years, regenerative dentistry focused on growth factors, biomaterials and surgical techniques. The next frontier is understanding the patient’s inflammatory and immune status before treatment. Osteoimmunology and chairside inflammatory assessment have the potential to help clinicians make better treatment decisions, improve healing outcomes and identify patients who may require additional biological preparation before surgery.”

Organisers say the masterclass has been designed as a clinically oriented programme, providing evidence-based protocols that practitioners can integrate into daily practice. Alongside lectures, the programme will include live demonstrations and practical sessions covering advanced PRF applications and regenerative workflows.

All participants will get to watch a live demo that includes how to create PRF membrane, Liquid PRF, and Sticky Bone. There will also be an optional hands-on session for those who want to learn how to create a steaky bone.

Participants will receive an international certificate of participation endorsed by leading international educational organisations in implant dentistry and continuing professional education.

As regenerative dentistry increasingly shifts from procedure-centred approaches towards personalised biological treatment strategies, the India tour is expected to provide clinicians with an opportunity to explore how emerging concepts in osteoimmunology, platelet concentrates and risk assessment may influence the future of implant therapy.
