Mangaluru hosts 46th National conference of Indian Prosthodontic Society

Mangaluru,Karnataka: The 46th Indian Prosthodontic Society National Conference held in Mangaluru from 15th to 18th November, 2018 was attended by 2300 delegates with more than 1000 scientific deliberations. There were 12 eminent international guest speakers and 42 National speakers of repute sharing a common platform for exchange of ideas and experiences, with the ultimate aim to provide better restorative care to our patients and the society at large.

The inaugural function was held on 16th November, 2018 at the Father Muller Convention Centre, was graced by the august presence of Dr. S. Sacchidanand, Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, as the Chief Guest. He stressed on the need for an interdisciplinary approach in treatment planning and encouraged the prosthodontic fraternity to take steps in order to make Implant-based restorative care available to all.

Dr. Chethan Hegde, Organising Chairperson of the 46th IPS Conference, delivered the welcome address. The IPS Secretary, Dr. Rangarajan briefed the concourse about the past year's events, which was followed by the Presidential address delivered by IPS President, Dr. Kashinath. The function culminated with the felicitation of Dr. N. Sridhar Shetty and Dr. S.Ramananda Shetty ( former Vice-chancellor of RGUHS and Nitte University) stalwarts and great teachers in the field of Prosthodontics, as well as the proud recognition of the effort and contribution of  Dr. Y. Bharath Shetty and Dr. Jayakar Shetty. The evening came to a close with the Vote of Thanks proposed by the Organising Secretary, Dr. Manoj Shetty.

A report of the Indian Board of Prosthodontics (IBP) was presented by Dr.Anandakrishna GN, Secretary IBP and  former Vice President of the Indian Prosthodontic Society. The IBP was formed in 2012 with the mission  to certify Individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary knowledge and skills in field of Prosthodontics and allied sciences.

The IBP  through the conduct of an examination identifies individuals with the knowledge, skills and attitudes deemed important to those who will be called Diplomats of the Indian Board of Prosthodontics.

This year IBP exam had excellent participation with 5 candidates for Part 2 examination held on the 26th and 27th of Oct 2018 at Bengaluru of which two candidates were successful.  Part 1 exam was held at CODS Mangaluru on 15th Nov which was attended by 10 candidates of whom 5 candidates successful. This convocation was to honor and confer the Diploma their certifications.

The board conferred Diplomate certificates to Dr Anita Doshi and Dr Murtuza.
