The Indian Society of Oral Implantologists will hold its 32nd Annual Conference in Hyderabad from 3–6 September 2026. Centred on the theme “Regenerate, Restore, Rehabilitate in Digital Era,” ISOI Hyderabad 2026 will bring together clinicians, academicians, researchers, postgraduate students, laboratory professionals and industry partners for four days of scientific exchange, practical education and professional collaboration.

The conference arrives at an important moment for implant dentistry. Digital planning, artificial intelligence, guided surgery, advanced regenerative procedures and new approaches to complex rehabilitation are rapidly expanding clinical possibilities. At the same time, questions of biological integrity, case selection, ethical practice, complication management and long-term patient care remain fundamental.

To explore how ISOI Hyderabad 2026 intends to address this balance, Dental Tribune South Asia brought together four senior figures representing the society’s leadership, institutional experience and conference organisation:

In this group conversation, they discuss the evolution of ISOI and its annual conference, the significance of the 2026 theme, the advanced surgical and digital techniques being presented, opportunities for young clinicians and researchers, and their expectations for the future of implant dentistry in India.

ISOI is preparing for its 32nd Annual Conference. What does this milestone represent for the society?

Dr Sharat Shetty: Reaching the 32nd edition represents both continuity and progress. For more than three decades, the ISOI Annual Conference has provided a national platform for education, scientific discussion and professional collaboration in oral implantology.

However, longevity alone is not an achievement. What matters is our ability to evolve with the profession. Implant dentistry has progressed from being a relatively specialised intervention to becoming an important component of comprehensive oral rehabilitation. ISOI’s responsibility is to ensure that this growth remains evidence-based, ethical and centred on patient welfare.

The Hyderabad conference allows us to honour the society’s foundations while examining the technologies, biological principles and clinical protocols that will shape the next phase of implant dentistry.

Why was Hyderabad selected to host ISOI Hyderabad 2026?

Dr Vijay Srinivas: Hyderabad represents an excellent meeting point between heritage, healthcare and technology. It has a strong medical and dental community, excellent national and international connectivity, and the infrastructure needed to host a conference of this scale.

The Hyderabad International Convention Centre provides purpose-built facilities for parallel scientific sessions, exhibitions, meetings and delegate interaction. Its connection to the Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre also makes the overall experience more convenient for faculty and delegates.

Beyond the venue, Hyderabad offers a memorable cultural experience. We want attendees to benefit from a demanding scientific programme while also experiencing the city’s hospitality, cuisine and historic character.

Having been closely associated with ISOI and its conferences over many years, how have you seen the society and its annual conference evolve?

Dr V. S. Mohan: The evolution has been remarkable. In the earlier years, much of the discussion in implantology centred on achieving osseointegration, developing surgical confidence and establishing predictable basic protocols. Today, the conversation encompasses comprehensive rehabilitation, tissue regeneration, aesthetics, digital planning, immediate loading and the long-term management of increasingly complex cases.

ISOI’s annual conference has evolved alongside the profession. It has grown from an important educational meeting into a broad national platform connecting clinicians, academicians, researchers, postgraduate students, laboratory professionals and industry innovators.

What has remained constant is the society’s spirit of learning and professional fellowship. Every conference builds upon the experience of previous editions while responding to the changing needs of clinicians and patients.

How has the scientific programme been structured across the four days?

Dr K Padma Rayalu: The programme begins on 3 September with pre-conference workshops. These are designed as concentrated learning experiences covering advanced surgical, prosthetic and digital subjects.

The main conference will take place from 4–6 September in two parallel halls—the Carl Misch Hall and the Branemark Hall. The parallel format allows delegates to select sessions according to their interests and level of experience.

One hall includes a strong focus on regeneration, aesthetic-zone management, digital workflows, artificial intelligence and prosthetically driven treatment. The other addresses subjects such as immediate loading, full-arch treatment, corticobasal concepts, zygomatic and pterygoid implants, navigation and complex rehabilitation. Together, the two streams represent the broad clinical spectrum of contemporary implantology.

The conference theme is “Regenerate, Restore, Rehabilitate in Digital Era.” Why was this theme chosen?

Dr Sharat Shetty: The theme describes the complete clinical journey. Successful implant treatment does not begin with placing an implant. It begins with understanding biology, preserving or regenerating tissues, restoring function and aesthetics, and ultimately rehabilitating the patient.

Digital technology now connects every stage of this journey—from diagnostics and treatment planning to guided surgery, prosthetic design, laboratory communication and long-term maintenance. Nevertheless, technology cannot replace sound biological principles or clinical judgement.

The theme therefore reflects the balance we want delegates to consider: using digital precision to enhance treatment while maintaining a strong foundation in biology, evidence and ethics. The objective is not to become digital for its own sake, but to use technology to achieve safer, more predictable and patient-specific outcomes.


What will distinguish ISOI Hyderabad 2026 from a conventional lecture-based conference?

Dr Vijay Srinivas: Our intention is to create a multidimensional learning experience. The programme combines keynote lectures, focused clinical presentations, panel discussions, research presentations, pre-conference workshops and a major industry exhibition.

The main conference will run in two parallel scientific halls, allowing us to address a wide range of subjects. These include hard- and soft-tissue regeneration, sinus augmentation, immediate placement and loading, full-arch rehabilitation, zygomatic and pterygoid implants, aesthetic-zone management, digital workflows, artificial intelligence and implant prosthodontics.

The pre-conference workshops are particularly important because they allow delegates to move beyond listening and engage more directly with techniques, workflows and clinical decision-making. We want attendees to return to their practices with knowledge they can apply.

Several advanced surgical techniques feature prominently in the programme. Which procedures and clinical challenges will receive particular attention?

Dr K Padma Rayalu: The conference will cover a broad spectrum of advanced surgical techniques, particularly those used in complex and compromised clinical situations. The programme includes sinus augmentation, osseodensification, hard- and soft-tissue regeneration, guided bone regeneration, Khoury and modified Khoury techniques, nerve repositioning, and immediate implant placement and loading.

For severely atrophic jaws and full-arch rehabilitation, delegates will encounter discussions on zygomatic and pterygoid implants, remote anchorage, corticobasal implantology and patient-specific or custom subperiosteal implants. Guided surgery, dynamic navigation and digitally planned surgical workflows will also be examined.

Importantly, these sessions are intended to address more than surgical execution. Faculty will discuss case selection, anatomical limitations, risk assessment, prosthetically driven planning and complication management. Our objective is to help clinicians understand not only how an advanced procedure is performed, but also when it is justified—and when a different approach may provide a safer and more predictable result.

As implant dentistry becomes increasingly technology-driven, which fundamental principles must clinicians ensure they don't forget?

Dr V. S. Mohan: Technology can improve diagnosis, planning, communication and clinical precision, but it cannot compensate for weak fundamentals. A successful implant restoration must still begin with appropriate case selection, respect for biology, accurate diagnosis and a clear understanding of prosthetic requirements.

Clinicians must also consider the patient’s systemic health, expectations, ability to maintain the restoration and long-term follow-up. Digital tools should strengthen clinical judgement rather than replace it.

We should remain willing to question new techniques, examine the available evidence and discuss complications openly. Innovation becomes meaningful only when it produces safer, more predictable and more maintainable outcomes for patients.

Who should attend the conference, and what should each group expect to gain?

Dr Vijay Srinivas: The conference is designed for the entire implant-dentistry community. Experienced implantologists can examine advanced protocols and compare their approaches with those of other clinicians. General dentists incorporating implants into their practices can strengthen their understanding of case selection, planning, and complications.

Postgraduate students and young researchers will gain exposure to leading clinicians, new technologies and scientific presentation opportunities. Academicians can engage with emerging research and educational approaches, while laboratory professionals and industry partners can contribute to discussions on digital workflows, materials and treatment delivery.

The diversity of participants is one of the conference’s greatest strengths. Meaningful progress often occurs when clinicians, researchers, technicians and industry innovators exchange perspectives.

Which aspects of the pre-conference programme are particularly noteworthy?

Dr K Padma Rayalu: The workshop programme has been developed around areas in which clinicians frequently seek more practical guidance. Topics include treatment of the atrophic maxilla using zygomatic and pterygoid implants, precision scanning for All-on-X cases, aesthetic-zone digital workflows, immediate-loading protocols, guided implantology and patient-specific or custom subperiosteal implants.

Other workshops examine digital prosthetic workflows, virtual treatment planning and advanced rehabilitation of severely resorbed jaws. Several programmes include demonstrations or hands-on components.

The purpose is not simply to introduce a technique. A valuable workshop should help participants understand diagnosis, indications, workflow, limitations and possible complications. Since some workshops are being conducted at different locations, delegates should check the individual venue and timing carefully.

How does ISOI see its role in improving implant education and clinical standards in India?

Dr Sharat Shetty: ISOI aims to bridge research, education, and everyday clinical practice. Implantology is developing rapidly, and clinicians are continuously exposed to new materials, systems and protocols. They need reliable platforms where emerging concepts can be examined critically rather than adopted solely because they are new.

Through conferences, workshops and scientific presentations, the society encourages clinicians to understand indications, limitations, complications and long-term outcomes. We also want to promote responsible documentation, original research and open discussion of clinical challenges.

Ultimately, higher professional standards translate into better public dental health. Our role is to encourage clinicians to remain curious and innovative while practising with scientific discipline, transparency and respect for the patient.

What role have ISOI’s annual conferences played in strengthening implantology in India?

Dr V. S. Mohan: Annual conferences create an environment in which knowledge and experience can be shared across generations. They allow clinicians to learn not only from successful cases but also from complications, limitations and changes in treatment philosophy.

These meetings also help establish professional standards. When peers present research, debate techniques, and examine clinical outcomes, the entire profession benefits. The conference provides young clinicians with access to mentors and gives researchers a platform to communicate their work.

Equally important is the professional community that develops around the scientific programme. The relationships formed through ISOI encourage collaboration, referrals, research partnerships and continued learning long after the conference has concluded.

How is ISOI 2026 supporting postgraduate students and young researchers?

Dr K Padma Rayalu: Young clinicians and researchers are essential to society's future. ISOI Hyderabad 2026 provides opportunities for scientific paper and poster presentations covering original research, clinical research, case reports, case series and, where applicable, systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

The submission guidelines emphasise structured abstracts, evidence-based information, appropriate statistical analysis, ethical approval and patient consent for identifiable clinical material. These are important habits for every young researcher.

Presenting at a national conference gives participants more than visibility. It teaches them to organise their work, defend their methodology, respond to questions and communicate clinical relevance. We hope this experience encourages more postgraduate students to continue contributing to implant research and academic dentistry.

What is your vision for the future of oral implantology in India?

Dr Sharat Shetty: I believe the future will be increasingly digital, interdisciplinary and personalised. Artificial intelligence, digital diagnostics, guided surgery, dynamic navigation, additive manufacturing and improved regenerative materials will make treatment planning and delivery more precise.

At the same time, the profession must focus on accessibility, long-term maintenance and the prevention of complications. Greater technological capability should not lead to unnecessary treatment or the abandonment of fundamental principles.

India has an important advantage in its large clinical community, growing research ecosystem and strong culture of innovation. By combining scientific evidence with clinical experience and responsible use of technology, Indian implantologists can contribute significantly to the global development of the speciality.

What lasting impact would you like ISOI 2026 to have?

Dr Vijay Srinivas: A successful conference should create an effect that continues after the closing ceremony. We want delegates to leave Hyderabad with greater confidence, but also with a clearer understanding of their clinical responsibilities and limitations.

We hope the conference encourages participants to improve documentation, evaluate new technologies more critically, manage complex cases more systematically and recognise complications earlier. It should also foster collaboration among clinicians, institutions, researchers, and industry partners.

Most importantly, we want the conversations initiated at ISOI Hyderabad 2026 to lead to better patient care. If the knowledge exchanged in Hyderabad results in more ethical, predictable and biologically sound treatment, the conference will have achieved its purpose.

What advice would you offer young implantologists, and what would you like ISOI’s next generation to carry forward?

Dr V. S. Mohan: Young implantologists should invest first in strong foundations. They should study anatomy, biology, prosthodontics, treatment planning and complication management before attempting increasingly complex procedures. They should document their cases carefully, follow patients over time and remain honest about their outcomes.

They should also seek mentors, participate in scientific discussions and avoid measuring progress only by the number or complexity of procedures performed. Good implantology requires patience, judgement and the humility to recognise when a case should be referred or approached differently.

I would like the next generation of ISOI members to retain the society’s commitment to scientific integrity, ethical practice and professional fellowship. Technology will continue to change, but these values must remain permanent.

Finally, what practical advice would you give delegates preparing to attend ISOI Hyderabad 2026?

Dr K Padma Rayalu: Delegates should complete their registration only through the official conference channels and retain the receipt received by email. They should carry a government-approved photo ID, while postgraduate delegates should also have the documentation required for their registration category.

Those attending pre-conference workshops must remember that main-conference registration is mandatory. Workshop venues may differ, so participants should verify the location and reporting time rather than assuming that every workshop will be held at HICC.

We also recommend arranging accommodation and travel early. Most importantly, delegates should review both scientific halls before the conference and identify the sessions most relevant to their clinical interests. With parallel programmes and a large exhibition, advance planning will help them get the most value from their time in Hyderabad.
