The Botiss Young Pro Award
Straumann and botiss biomaterials announced the opening of the 2016 Young Pro Award competition early this year in February. Following the success of the inaugural event in 2015, the two sponsors decided to run the competition again this year in order to synchronize the award with the main ‘bone and tissue days event’ in Berlin. The purpose of this award is to foster and encourage the development of young dental professionals in the field of regenerative dentistry and dental biomaterial research. Dental practitioners, students, researchers, etc., under the age of 35 competed for the prize by submitting original work pertaining to the advances in treatment/care or research in regenerative dentistry. The entries were adjudicated by a distinguished panel of experts in the field. The award carried a cash prize of 10,000 euros and travel to the event.

And this year’s winner is Vítor Sapata
Dr.Sapata, a native of Brazil is currently a Research Scholar at the University of Zurich Clinic for Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Material Science in Switzerland. He holds a Master’s degree in Dental Science from the State University of Maringá in Brazil and completed a Periodontology Residency at the same faculty. The subject of his work was localized bone regeneration around dental implants using biological mediators (rhPDGF-BB or rhBMP-2) for bone regeneration around dental implants, the study sought to demonstrate if and how the use of biological mediators could improve predictability and reduce morbidity.

Running to packed halls were the lecture sessions which gave the audience the much needed clinical tips and insight into various topics on implantology, All speakers emphasized on the need for proper planning to bring about precise execution and predictable long term results.

With a keen eye on future developments in the field of biomaterial science, the Botiss Bone and tissue days showcased the current trends in soft and hard tissue management whether around natural teeth or around implants. Newer solutions to problems with the use of latest technology was, however, the highlight of the meet.

Until next time, Auf Wiedersehen.
